Action Photograph

This photo was taken in the middle of a kickball game. The subject is the pitcher, and he is in mid-throw. The goal of this image was to create a freeze effect by stopping motion. The Rule of Thirds was used to add to the effect of the pending throwing motion. Since the subject is moving toward the center of the frame, the feeling of movement is created. The rather bland background gives the spotlight to the subject, but the texture of the grass keeps the feeling of being in the outdoors and playing a real game.

  1. You did a nice job stopping the motion and freezing the subject- yet you still get a sense of movement in the picture, almost like the boy is about to loose his balance.

  3. I like the way the subject was posed! You can totally tell how in motion he's in.
